Why?

After years of playing kubb, we had gone through a lot of sets, and weren’t completely satisfied with any. So we set out to make the ideal set. The factors? Longevity, value, and attention to detail. We partnered with a local manufacturer that makes things the old fashioned way: each piece by hand.

Wood

The type of wood is critical. But wood is the product of nature and it can be inconsistent - consider it part of the game. We chose a hardwood poplar that grows in the Eastern US for three main reasons. Number one, it’s the species used in almost all tournaments in North America. Two, it’s relatively hard, resilient and consistent. And three, it’s comparatively cheaper than anything else.

Detail

But it’s not just the wood. We looked at how our pieces were wearing out and noticed they needed a little more rounding on some edges and less on others. We examined sets used in the World Championships in Sweden and some of the most popular sets in the world and settled on shapes that play well and last longer.

Stately

We also came up with a new, redesigned King. After breaking the king’s crown on a brand new $100 set at a tournament, we took our specifications to the lumber mill and they delivered. A king that retains a stately look while offering a long lasting shape that resists chips and sheds water. It takes more work, but it is worth it.

Mark it

Field (pitch) marking stakes are an important part of the game, too. We include 6 generous, round, sharpened stakes that enter the turf gracefully and will last the life of your set. Many manufacturers skimp on this. We don’t.

Last, but not least, we include two sets of rules with every set. An abbreviated one-page set to get you started, and a copy of the US National  Kubb Championship ruleset that should answer any questions you find on the pitch.
